Italian carnival predicts a popess
The carnival in Viareggio, Tuscany, takes place from February 9 to March 4. In the February 16 parade, many floats competed for the Best of 2025 award. The float that particularly caught our attention was the one predicting a female pope, or "popess," to emerge from a possible conclave that could be called shortly. The details of the spectacle go so far as to feature a cupola similar to that on St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, first row below, a group of elector cardinals, second row, and even the white smoke announcing the election of a new pontiff, third row. The name of the float – Sic transit gloria mundi (Thus the glory of the world passes) – is part of the ceremonial of the papal inauguration after the election.
The large popess on the float turns, moves her head and eyes, and blesses the crowd, while a human version of the same popess, fourth row, leads a dancing parade of countless priests and nuns who are commemorating her election...
Undoubtedly, it is a mockery that cannot be approved, but it also reveals that the shrewd Italian people have already caught on to where the progressivist trend of installing women in important places at the Vatican is heading.
