Pachamama monstrance in Guadalajara
The website Aciprensa gives us the following description of what took place in late June 2021: "The controversial statue of the 'pachamama' or 'mother earth,' which was present in various activities during the Amazon Synod 2019, was recently used as a monstrance of the Eucharist in a church in Guadalajara, México."In photos posted by Mexican priest José Luis González Santoscoy, on his Facebook page, and later deleted, we see a monstrance in the shape of pachamama, a naked pregnant woman, carrying the Eucharist in her womb.
"The photos were taken in the interior of San Juan Macías church in Zapopan, in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara."
When contacted by Aciprensa, neither the mentioned priest nor the Archdiocese of Guadalajara made any comments. The parish priest of San Juan Macías, Fr. Juan Pedro Oriol, said that he was on vacation at that time and did not know how that monstrance came to be placed there...
