Catholic Etiquette

Hello,

I would like to know the name of the book used in the post about funerals and mourning etiquette.

Thank you very much.

     God bless you

TIA responds:

Hello C.F,

We believe you are referring to the book mentioned in Part III of the series on Catholic Funeral Etiquette. Those guidelines on mourning customs were taken from from American Catholic Etiquette, The Neuman Press, 1962, 3rd printing.

We hope this is of help to you.

     Cordially,

Converting to Catholicism

Dear Mr. Guimarães,

Greeting from Hong Kong.

I hope you are well.

I've come across your website through a website on Fr Gruner, and I found so many useful information on Catholicism.

And since your website has been resourceful and helpful to me who has been looking for Catholic traditions, I am wondering if you can give me a little help on the following question:

I am considering becoming a Catholic and, before I can be baptized, there are a lot of preparations I need to do mentally and spiritually.

As I am residing in Hong Kong and am also a citizen of Portugal, I have been choosing a Church in Hong Kong or Portugal which is suitable for me.

I have paid some visits to a local Church in Hong Kong, and went to their mass, but I felt disappointed that the mass was too simplified and I didn't feel the passion from the priest.

Do you have any recommendation of Churches in Portugal that still keep the integrity of Catholic traditions? If so, please kindly let me know their links or contact information.

Thank you so much for your big help.

     Sincerely,

     C.C., Hong Kong

The Editor responds:

Dear C.C.,

Thank you for your amiable words on our website.

I encourage you to convert to the Catholic Church and receive baptism as soon as you can. No one knows the future and some accident can happen to you, as accidents happen daily to many other people. It is not prudent to jeopardize your eternal salvation.

In order to learn the truths of our Holy Faith, I recommend that you read the Catechism of Trent, also known as Roman Catechism, which is the best one I know. You can find the complete text in Spanish here; complete text in English here.

I am not familiar with the traditional Masses in Hong Kong or in Portugal. In order to assist you, I made a search on the Internet and found this list of places where the Tridentine Mass is said in Portugal. I hope the listing is objective, but I am not sure of it.

I hope these answers will be of some help to you.

     Cordially

     Atila S. Guimarães

Are Men Obsolete?

Dear Tradition in Action,

"Are Men Obsolete?" You and the good readers of TIA may find this to be of interest. In this video a woman counters the assertion recently made by a feminist group that men are 'obsolete.'

She does not give a very Catholic appearance, and she seems a bit sickly, but her arguments are a strong condemnation of the deceitful and violent ideology of feminism.

As we in the Western world continue to sink into the morass of the 21st century, held in the insane grip of narcissistic feminism, it would do well for us to remind ourselves about the reality of what the situation really is, and just how far we have fallen.

After all, it is only because men have made it so that feminism can exist.

B’nai B’rith Praises Francis

Dear TIA,

Congratulations for your constant alert against Progressivism and its relationship with Judaism. I appreciated Guimarães’ recent comments on Francis’ visit to the synagogue.

On the other hand, the Jews are very happy with him. You can read the news report below in which the B’nai B’rith – a kind of Freemasonry of the Jews – expresses its joy.

When a Pope is criticized by real Catholics and praised by enemies of the Church, it is not so difficult to see who he is serving.

     Keep up the good work.

     E.J.

B’nai B’rith International has issued the following statement:

B’nai B’rith Europe President Daniel Citone was in attendance when Pope Francis spoke at the Great Synagogue of Rome on Jan. 17. Francis is now the third pope to visit the synagogue. The event included speeches by Ruth Dureghello, the president of the Jewish community of Rome, and Chief Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni.

The Pontiff spoke about the Holocaust and strongly urged to “say no to all forms of anti-Semitism, all insults, discrimination and persecution arising thereform.” In October of 1943 the Nazis deported more than 2,000 Jews from Rome. Francis also met with several Italian-Jewish Holocaust survivors and mentioned that his relationships with the Jewish people “are in his heart,” and that previous “enemies and strangers” have now become “friends and brothers.”

B’nai B’rith is gratified that the Catholic-Jewish friendship continues to grow and hold strong. We are pleased that the pope shares a commitment to create “an authentic relationship of friendship.” This visit sends a clear and concise message to the world that the fight to end anti-Semitism cannot stop.
