On the occasion of the death of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, the Grand Orient of Italy issued an official notice on its website paying homage to the Jesuit Cardinal.

Martini: Raffi Says Farewell to a Man of Dialogue,
a Grand Expression of the Church-Word
"A man of dialogue and profound culture, who knew how to speak to the youth and was always open to facing change. He had a strong spirituality; he was a grand expression of the Church-Word, that is, of that 'kerigma' which goes beyond all structure and convention." These are the words of Gustavo Raffi, Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Italy, commemorating Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, who passed away today at the age of 85.
"He believed in ecumenism and dialogue with civil society and other religions, starting with Judaism," Raffi continues: "His great humanity and the example of his reflections addressing the great themes of human life will be missed by believers and non-believers."
