Hymns & songs Holy Week Liturgy Elevamini Portae Aeternales Elevimini portae aeternalis – Be ye lifted up, O eternal gates – is one of the responsories of Holy Saturday. It is based on Psalm 23 and focuses on the victorious entrance of Our Lord into Heaven following His Resurrection. After being buried in the sleep of the tomb, the King of Glory rises from the dead. He enters through the gates of His Heavenly Kingdom. The world and all created things belong to Him, our God who has triumphed over death and sin. This variation of Elevamini portae aeternales was composed by the 16th century Spanish priest Tomás Luis de Victoria. It is here sung here by the Schola Antiqua of Chicago. Latin Lyrics: Elevamini portae aeternales, Et introibit Rex Gloriae, Domini est terra, et plenitudo ejus, Orbis terrarum, et universi qui habitant in eo.
