Clownish gesture of Pope Wojtyla

While visiting the Island of Cape Verde in West Africa in 1980, John Paul II jokingly donned a native headdress of that archipelago, making him look silly and inviting onlookers to laugh. His facial expression seems to say to the photographers: "Look at me now with this new hat!" revealing a great lack of seriousness toward the sacred mission of the papacy.

Certainly the pretext for his action was Vatican II's inculturation, but its practical consequence was to downplay the importance of the Papacy. A symbolic gesture that corresponds to the doctrinal goal manifested by JPII of changing the Papacy to please Protestants and Schismatics in his Encyclical Ut unum sint (nn. 88, 95c, 96).

Is this the gesture of a Saint?
