The picture above shows one of the many circles of children's meditation that exist in Australia. These circles encompass around 15,000 children only in the public school system. Behind these "Christian Meditation" sessions is Ernie Christie. His book Coming Home: A Guide to Teaching Christian Meditation to Children is the base for the instruction of 1,200 teachers under his direction in the schools in Townsville, Australia.

Christie counts on the full support of Bishop Michael Putney of Townsville, who invited him to direct the Catholic Office of Religious Education and Curriculum in the Diocese. Currently the "meditations" are being introduced in all diocesan Catholic schools.

But Christie is not alone in this effort. Behind him is the WCCM - World Community for Christian Meditation - based in London. This large network was founded by Fr. Laurence Freeman, a Benedictine monk and a disciple of a fellow Benedictine John Main, who assimilated Buddhist & Hindu mysticism into Catholic spirituality.

Fr. Freeman is a tireless disseminator of this Buddhist-Catholic method of meditation for children and, without too much fanfare, he has led increasing numbers of children into Buddhist practices, as shown in the pictures below.
