The Vatican Recommends Michael Jackson

We transcribe here a disconcerting news item published in the daily La Tercera [Santiago, Chile] about recent Vatican recommendations in rock music (see also this news item):

La Tercera, February 13, 2010 - From time to time the Vatican gives its opinion through its newspaper L’Osservatore Romano about what is happening in society and culture. For this reason, it is not surprising that the paper would express the Top Ten rock and pop albums of all times, according to the judgment of the Holy See. These could also be called the Vatican’s Ten Commandments for good listening.
Yesterday, L’Osservatore Romano, the Holy See’s daily, published its selections for the parade of pop rock, which includes the album “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd, and the Beatles’ “Revolver.” L’Osservatore Romano qualified this road guide to good music – which included “Graceland,” the album of Paul Simon and “Supernatural” by Carlos Santana – as ‘half-serious.’
The paper calls these rock songs classics to take to a desert island: “If I Could Only Remember My Name” by David Crosby, “Rumors” by Fleetwood Mac, “Nightfly” by Donald Fagen, “Achtung Baby” by U2, and “(What’s The Story) Morning Glory” by The Oasis.
It is difficult to understand the purpose of L’Osservatore Romano in praising these rock groups, especially if one considers the obvious relation between rock music and the neo-pagan lifestyle that increasingly distances the modern man from Heaven.
In fact, for the modern man, who loves frenzy, the excesses of the world and progress, rock is the musical expression of his state of soul. Rock is the musical composition that comes from a pernicious love for disorder and from exiling Our Lord Jesus Christ from daily life.
Speaking about rock music in his celebrated work Revolution and Counter-Revolution, Prof. Plinio Correa de Oliveira says this about the ‘rock-and-roll generation’:
The rock and roll generation - The revolutionary process in souls, as herein described, produced in the most recent generations – and especially in adolescents of our days who hypnotize themselves with rock and roll – a frame of mind characterized by spontaneity in their first reactions, without the control of the intelligence or the effective participation of the will, and by the predominance of fantasy and feelings over the methodical analysis of reality. All this is fruit, in large measure, of a pedagogy that virtually eliminates the role of logic and the true formation of the will. (Part One, Chapter VII, d)
How can one comprehend the “apostolate” of rock that the official organ of the Vatican is promoting?
